PORTFOLIO
Visible Sound
This collection was influenced by the physics of Chladni figures: patterns formed from granulated materials (powder, salt, etc.) on a metal plate that vibrates when touched by sound. One can use a speaker underneath or, in this case, a violin bow strung along the edge of the plate, to play different frequencies. The salt travels across the metal to the areas lacking vibration and each frequency forms a unique landscape based on its auditory qualities. Where no vibration occurs is where the patterns emerge. The designs, shapes, and tailoring details in this collection aim to be both conceptual and wearable. The silhouettes and the fabrics express my interpretation of the Chladni patterns and how they can be worn on the body.
